Modern Studio Apartment

Gorgeous bamboo floors

In December, I had the privilege of being both the interior designer and project manager of this amazing studio apartment.  It is so beautiful and calm that everyone involved in the project was delighted with the results.  My clients (who are also my friends) have a garage separated from their home that has a small studio apartment above it that functions as their guest room.  The apartment was most likely built in the 1980's and had not been updated in some time.  They really love a clean, modern look and asked me to make the apartment reflect that vibe......in time for Christmas guests.   With the tireless work of Ron Sterbenz and all the guys from Eagle Ridge Designs (whom I always call "The Dream Team!), our ideas came to life very quickly.

We chose a striking Jackson Pollock print over the bamboo bed.

We painted the typical oak cabinets a warm chocolate brown, replaced the laminate countertops with quartz, changed the hardware and faucet, and added this fantastic stone and glass backsplash to the kitchenette. Under-cabinet lighting and a single piece of crown molding made a huge difference in the way these cabinets look. We also chose a much smaller refrigerator that we tucked under the counter.  Building a shelf for the microwave left precious countertop free for making snacks.  A new stainless range hood completed the look, and the range will be replaced with stainless at some point.

A cozy spot to enjoy the view of Boone Lake.

What a view!

Beautiful green glass tile took the bathroom from plain to glamorous.  The gorgeous chrome and china vanity is absolutely stunning in person.  Sconces on each side of the mirror offer dramatic light for the space.

The fixed glass panel in the shower rather than a door adds an unexpected exotic vacation feel to the room.

The beautiful art glass on these sconces made me think of the wave patterns and ripples on the surface of the lake.

Soap and shampoo niche built into the shower wall.

Toilet in new location under the window.

Storage access door painted the wall color to blend in a bit.

The before photos still amaze me.  We replaced the ceiling fan, removed the popcorn texture from the ceilings, took up the berber carpet and vinyl flooring in the kitchenette, and improved the lighting dramatically.  The bamboo flooring really made all the difference in the finished apartment.

Here are some photos of The Dream Team working in the middle of the project.

Good natured Rudy touching up every single paint spot that I marked in blue tape!
